The Number of Individuals Facing Legal Action Due to Personal Loan or Credit Card Debt Has Increased
In September 2024, the number of individuals subject to legal proceedings due to personal loan or credit card debt increased compared to the same month last year. According to a statement by the Turkish Banks Association (TBB), the number of individuals facing legal action due to credit card debt during the January-September 2024 period was 1.035 million, while the number for personal loan debt during the same period was 856 thousand.
In the January-September 2024 period, the number of individuals subjected to legal proceedings due to personal loans or credit card debt increased by 43% compared to the same month last year, reaching 1.396 million. According to Risk Center data, as of September 2024, the total receivables to be liquidated in individual loans, including credit cards, amounted to 102 billion TL, marking a 139% increase compared to the same period last year.
