Rising Personal Loan Debts: Increase in Number of Individuals Under Legal Pursuit in September
According to data released by the Turkish Banking Association Risk Center, there was a significant increase in the number of individuals who faced legal action due to personal loans and credit card debts in September 2024. This increase was noteworthy compared to the same period in the previous year.
Evaluation of January-September period In the January-September period of 2024, the number of individuals subjected to legal action due to personal credit card debt was recorded at 1,035,000, while the number of those facing legal action due to personal loan debt was 856,000. This indicates that a total of 1,396,000 individuals were subjected to legal action, marking a 43% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
Outstanding loan balance in legal proceedings As of September 2024, risk center data shows that the non-performing receivables in personal loans, including credit cards, reached 102 billion TL, reflecting a 139% increase. This rise indicates the growing challenges individuals face in meeting their credit and financing needs.
