Nearly $1 Billion Spent on Political Ads in the U.S. Last Week

According to data from advertising tracking firm AdImpact, as Election Day approaches in the U.S., nearly $1 billion was spent on political advertising in the past week, with $994 million being close to one-tenth of the more than $10 billion spent on political ads since the start of 2023.

While Election Day will temporarily halt the spending blitz that has dominated television ads in recent weeks, it is not over yet: more than $300 million in advertising time has still been reserved between Sunday and Tuesday.

According to AdImpact, the most expensive race last week was the presidential race, which saw more than $272 million spent on ads. Former President Donald Trump's campaign spent $40.7 million against Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign, which spent $43.4 million, from October 27 to November 2. However, Democratic super PACs helped the party narrowly outpace Republicans in ad spending during this period.

So far, $227 million has been spent on ads for Senate races. Each Senate contest in Ohio, Texas, and Pennsylvania received over $30 million in spending last week. Wisconsin and Michigan followed with more than $23 million spent last week.

In the House of Representatives races, over $208 million has been spent on advertising.
