Headline: White House Urges Boeing and Striking Union to Reach an Agreement
The White House has encouraged Boeing and the union representing around 33,000 striking workers to continue working towards reaching an agreement, following the employees' rejection of the aircraft manufacturer's latest contract offer. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated, "President Joe Biden has directed his team to encourage the parties to continue working towards an agreement that absolutely works for all parties involved. We will continue to monitor these negotiations and ensure we are supporting this effort."
The U.S. Department of Labor also mentioned that Acting Secretary Julie Su has been in contact with both Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Su visited Seattle twice last week to assist in the contract negotiations aimed at ending the six-week strike, which has halted production of Boeing’s best-selling 737 MAX as well as the 767 and 777 widebody programs. A spokesperson for Su noted that she stands "ready to support" both Boeing and the union.
