Headline: "U.S. Highlights AI Risks from China, Points to Coercion Potential"
The US government has voiced its concerns regarding China's use of artificial intelligence technology. White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan highlighted worries about this technology's potential to impose repressive measures on populations, disseminate misinformation, and pose threats to the security of the US and its allies.
In a statement at the National Defense University, Sullivan pointed out that China is developing a technological ecosystem that bears numerous risks. According to Sullivan, this system lacks safeguards for sensitive data, could enable mass surveillance and censorship, and has the potential to spread misinformation. These factors could leave countries vulnerable to coercion.
Sullivan also stated that the US is responding to these challenges. A new US directive on artificial intelligence has been introduced to address these concerns. The directive is designed to offer alternatives to emerging economies and other global partners, presenting solutions that differ from the technological path pursued by China.
