"16.148 Million Residents Embark on Domestic Travels in the Second Quarter"

In the second quarter, encompassing April, May, and June, 16.148 million residents within the country embarked on travels. The total number of domestic trips with at least one overnight stay increased by 23.3% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, reaching 19.830 million trips. During this quarter, travelers recorded a total of 118.258 million overnight stays, with an average duration of 6 nights per trip.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, travelers spent a total of 103.114 billion TL. Domestic travel expenditures by local tourists increased by 115.8% over the same quarter of the previous year, amounting to 103.114 billion TL. Of these expenditures, 90% were personal expenses at 92.772 billion TL, while 10% were package tour expenses at 10.341 billion TL. The average spending per trip was 5,200 TL.

Analyzing the distribution of expenditure types within total travel spending, the largest share was food and beverages at 33.1%, followed by transportation at 27.3%, and accommodation at 14.1%. Comparing these spending types to the same period last year, there was an increase of 117.1% in food and beverages, 123% in transportation, and 112.2% in accommodation.

Trips made for the purpose of visiting relatives ranked first at 62.4%. "Travel, entertainment, vacation" ranked second at 31.6%, and "health" was third at 2.7%.

Regarding accommodation preferences, travelers most frequently stayed at the homes of friends or relatives, accounting for 86.604 million overnight stays. "Own home" followed with 13.925 million overnight stays, and "hotels" came in third with 10.308 million overnight stays.
