Intriguing Movements: Russia Repositions Black Sea Fleet Amidst Ukrainian Attacks
According to Dmitry Rogozin, an official appointed by Russia, the Russian Black Sea Fleet has moved several warships from its base in Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula. Rogozin, who serves as a senator for the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia region and is the former head of Russia's space agency, acknowledged that this move was a direct result of Ukrainian attacks. This admission marks the first time a Russian official has confirmed the fleet's relocation from the historic base annexed by Russia in 2014.
Ukraine regularly reports on its military actions against Russian naval vessels in the Black Sea, stating that these attacks have forced the warships to reposition to Novorossiisk. In an interview with the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper, Rogozin emphasized the need for Russia to intensify its efforts in developing drones, organizing military drone units, and advancing electronic warfare and satellite positioning systems.
Rogozin highlighted the rapid pace of technological advancements in warfare, particularly in drones and electronic warfare, noting that these developments significantly alter the dynamics on the front lines each month. He cited the situation of the Black Sea Fleet as a clear example of the necessity for adaptation, stating that larger ships have become easy targets for unmanned enemy boats.
Additionally, Rogozin pointed out that Russia was lagging in drone technology at the beginning of the conflict in 2022. Although Russia has made significant progress since then, he stressed the urgency of faster development, particularly in allocating weapon expenditures and establishing specialized drone regiments. He also emphasized the critical need for guidance systems capable of withstanding electronic warfare to ensure precise targeting capabilities.
