Opposition Party DPP in Japan to Support Tamaki for Prime Minister
In the wake of the October 27 elections in Japan, the opposition party, the Democratic Party for the People (DPP), which has taken a key position, will nominate its leader, Yuichiro Tamaki, for the prime ministerial election to be held today in the parliament.
DPP Secretary-General Kazuya Shimba stated that Tamaki has the full support of the party to continue as its leader. Shimba mentioned that the party will continue to present Tamaki as its candidate for prime minister in both the first and anticipated second rounds of voting.
Referring to the upcoming upper house elections next year, Shimba said, "Tamaki has helped us many times, and without Tamaki, this party would not exist. We have increased our number of members in the lower house and changed the landscape, but if we lose seats in the next election, it will mean nothing."
