S&P Global: It's Unlikely That Trump Will Fully Implement His Tariff Plan
S&P Global, the international credit rating agency, stated that U.S. President Donald Trump's promise to impose a universal tariff of 10% on imports and 60% on Chinese goods is likely just a starting point for negotiations. S&P noted, “The imposition of tariffs at these levels is unlikely, but if Trump were to pursue this, a universal 10% tariff could add as much as 1.8 percentage points to U.S. inflation.” The report published by S&P indicated that rather than having a continuing inflationary effect, this would trigger a revival in inflation in the first year and affect production by approximately 1 percentage point.
