India Expects Stability in US Policy Post-Election, Economic Advisor States
According to India's chief economic advisor, the country anticipates a consistent approach in its relations with the U.S. following the presidential election. V. Anantha Nageswaran expects "policy continuity" between the two nations, regardless of the election outcome. These statements came after Republican Donald Trump declared his victory in the race.
Speaking in Singapore, Nageswaran expressed his confidence in the enduring economic ties between India and the U.S., asserting that the relationship will remain stable. He emphasized that India is prepared to work with any candidate the American people choose as their President.
Despite Trump labeling India as a "very large tariff abuser" in trade relations last September, the Republican leader had also praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the other hand, the Democratic administration under President Joe Biden has warmly welcomed Modi and highlighted agreements in defense and trade during his visit last June.
The chief economic advisor's remarks suggest minimal changes are expected in the U.S.-India economic relationship and emphasize their readiness to continue cooperation with the newly elected U.S. leadership.
