Shopping Mall Square Meter Efficiency Index Increased by 58% Year-on-Year in September
The results of the Mall Index, created in collaboration with the Shopping Centers and Investors Association (AYD) and Akademetre Research, for September have been announced.
It was stated: "According to the regularly published data, the turnover index rose by 58% in September 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 3371 points when not adjusted for inflation. Considering that the annual inflation rate announced for September 2024 is 49.38%, it can be seen that the increase in the productivity index per square meter exceeds inflation.
In the September 2024 period, the productivity index per square meter increased by 2.8% compared to August 2024, reaching 3371 points when not adjusted for inflation.
When comparing the Mall Index data on a quarterly basis with the third quarter of the previous year, a 55.2% increase was observed, bringing the index to 3152 points in the third quarter of 2024.
In September, the turnover per square meter of leasable area in shopping malls across Turkey was 12,852 TL, while in Istanbul it was 15,192 TL, and in Anatolia, it was 11,292 TL.
When looking at the turnover per square meter on a quarterly basis with the same period of the previous year and without adjusting for inflation, a 55.2% increase was recorded. The productivity per square meter in the third quarter of 2024 was 12,396 TL.
Category-Based Turnover Index When comparing the index on a category basis with September of the previous year, the highest increase of 67.2% was seen in the other category (*The other category includes stores such as hardware, furniture, home textiles, gifts, toys, cinema, personal care and cosmetics, jewelry, hobby, pet shops, tailor and shoe repair services, currency exchange, dry cleaning, and pharmacies). The technology category showed an increase of 59.9%, hypermarket category by 58.6%, food and beverage category by 56.4%, clothing category by 54.9%, and footwear category by 52.3%.
When comparing the category-based turnover index with the previous month, August 2024, a 12.8% increase was observed in the technology category, 2.9% in the clothing category, 1.9% in the footwear category, and 1.2% in the hypermarket category, while there was a decrease of -3.5% in the food and beverage category and -2.6% in the other category.
Visitor Count Index When comparing the data of September 2024 with the same month of the previous year, no change was observed in the visitor count index.
In the September 2024 period, a decrease of -3.2% in the visitor count index was observed compared to the previous month, August 2024.
