Kacır: Continuing to Showcase Anatolia's Riches to the World
The Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, announced that with the inclusion of Manisa mesir macunu, prepared with 41 different spices and known for its medicinal properties and centuries-old tradition, the number of geographical indication products registered with the European Union (EU) has risen to 28.
Manisa mesir macunu, a unique source of healing and one of Turkey's cultural heritages, is now recognized in Europe with the EU geographical indication. Minister Kacır stated that the inclusion of Manisa mesir macunu, a symbol of health, abundance, and unity, brings the total number of EU-registered geographical indication products to 28. He emphasized, "Our mesir macunu, prepared with 41 different spices, is among the most valuable tastes of our cultural heritage with its medicinal content and centuries-old tradition. We continue to promote the richness of Anatolia to the world through our local development initiatives."
According to data from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT), Turkey has 28 registered geographical indication products within the European Union. The total number of registered geographical indications across Turkey has reached 1,646. The provinces with the highest number of geographical indication applications are Hatay, Diyarbakır, and Erzincan. Currently, the registration process for a total of 66 applications, including 4 in the announcement phase, is ongoing.
