Indonesia's Nickel Ore Imports Surge to 9.3 Million Metric Tons

In the first ten months of 2024, Indonesia's nickel ore imports rose to 9.3 million metric tons, more than 50 times the 161,917-ton figure from a year earlier. Due to increased demand for smelter facilities and delays in issuing mining quotas caused by heavy rainfall that affects mining operations, Indonesia has purchased a record amount of nickel ore from the Philippines since April. During the January-October period, a significant portion of nickel ore imports came from the Philippines and China, with the total value rising to $406 million from $7.1 million the previous year.
