Apple Faces £3 Billion 'iCloud Monopoly' Compensation Claim in the UK

Forex - In the UK, the consumer rights group 'Which?' has filed a lawsuit against Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) on behalf of approximately 40 million users of the iCloud cloud storage service under competition law.

The class action seeks £3 billion in damages, claiming that Apple has violated competition rules by favoring its own cloud storage service and locking users into iCloud with "rip-off" pricing. The consumer rights group stated, "iOS has a monopoly, and Apple controls its operating systems, and Apple should not use this dominance to gain an unfair advantage in relevant markets such as cloud storage. Yet, this is exactly what has happened," announcing their appeal to the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT).

The lawsuit alleges that while Apple encourages device users to sign up for iCloud for photo storage and other data needs, it also makes it challenging for consumers to use alternative storage providers.
