China and Russia Hold 19th Round of Annual Strategic Security Consultations
On Tuesday, China and Russia held the 19th round of their annual strategic security consultations in Beijing, where both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on key issues of mutual concern regarding strategic security.
The meeting was co-chaired by Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
Wang noted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia, stating that under the leadership of both heads of state, China-Russia relations have maintained a solid and stable momentum amid changes in global issues.
He observed that both sides adhere to the principles of enduring good-neighborliness and friendship, comprehensive strategic coordination, and mutually beneficial cooperation that serve the fundamental interests of their two peoples.
Wang emphasized that China and Russia firmly support each other on issues concerning their core interests, deepen political mutual trust, promote practical cooperation, create a new model for relations among neighboring major countries, and significantly enhance solidarity and cooperation within the Global South.
He added that under the guidance of the consensus reached by the two heads of state, the China-Russia strategic security consultation mechanism should strengthen coordination on strategic and comprehensive issues related to both parties' security and development interests.
Wang also called for an increase in exchanges and multilateral coordination between the two countries in the changing international environment to provide a strong guarantee for the high-level development momentum of China-Russia relations and to ensure their collaboration in maintaining global strategic stability.
Shoigu expressed Russia's willingness to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and to enhance bilateral cooperation and coordination within multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and BRICS to promote the continuous development of Russia-China relations.
